De la Republique Provincial Park: Camp Here and Walk to all Top Attractions

De la Republique Provincial Park follows the banks of the Madawaska River on the River Valley Scenic Drive just a few minutes from Edmundston, New Brunswick.

Directions:

De la Republique Provincial Park is located at 35 Principal Street in Saint Jacques (near Edmundston, NB). If you are entering New Brunswick from Quebec at the Edmundston border take Route #2 South to Exit 8 and follow the signs for the Provincial Park. If you are driving west on highway #2, go past Edmundston and take Exit 8, then follow the signs. It is near the highway.

Facilities:

It is one of nine parks owned and operated by the province of New Brunswick. There are 156 campsites, which are nicely wooded and private with fairly modern and clean washrooms/showers, and coin operated laundry facilities. Three-way service is available, along with semiserviced and unserviced sites. There is a dumping station near the entrance to the park.

We found this park just slightly noisy since it is near the four-lane highway. The campsites were very nice though, and there were many trees which made them quite private.

De la Republique Provincial Park has some beautiful recreation facilities that include tennis courts, playground, horseshoe pits and a heated swimming pool. There was a canteen and little gift shop beside the pool also. The pool is free for campers staying at the park but there is a small fee for the use of the pool (2.25/person for 1hour & 45minutes) if you are not camping there. Beware that the pool closes on the third weekend of August.

We were there the last full week of August and the kids were quite disappointed with the pool not being open.

Do you like walking, jogging, or biking? De la Republique Provincial Park has access to the interprovincial bike trail! This 81-mile trail begins in Edmundston, New Brunswick and goes to Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec.

The Antique Automobile Museum and The New Brunswick Botanical Gardens are both located near the entrance to the park and are within walking distance of the campground. The Botanical Gardens are open into the evening, which makes it a nice walk after supper. More evening entertainment can be found at de la Republic’s licensed terrace. There you will find live entertainment featuring local talent in the covered amphitheater.

De la Republique Provincial park offers three tent cabins at a very reasonable price for those people who want the tenting experience without actually sleeping on the ground or getting wet if it rains. The tent cabins are just a shell of a cabin that occupy one of the tent sites that contain no washroom facilities (You use the facilities just like the other campers in the park.) but they do have power and there are wooden bed frames inside to put your air mattress and sleeping bag on. It is a great idea if you have friends or family who would like to tent with you but they don’t have a camper. They can rent a tent cabin and you can get a site near them in the same park.

Travel Tips:

Travel Tips: This is a great place to stay and explore Edmundston and the surrounding area. It is also a great place to relax for a few days especially if you have children who love to swim! This park is pet friendly, offers bilingual service, and there is also a boat ramp.
