Fredericton is New Brunswick’s capital city. It is a government and University City with lots of artsy types to boot. Fredericton is located near the center of the province along the long and winding Saint John River. Fredericton Sports Hall of Fame Downtown Fredericton New Brunswick is very picturesque with many walking/biking trails, unique shops, restaurants and artisans. In the summer month’s, downtown Fredericton is where all the action is. With free entertainment, local crafts, museums, haunted hikes, and guided tours there is something for practically every age group to enjoy.

I lived in Fredericton New Brunswick for a few years and now reside in a more rural area outside the city. (I prefer a more country setting since I grew up on a dairy farm) Fredericton is a very clean and well-kept city with many flower gardens and trees and shrubs that are meticulously maintained by the city works crew.

Fredericton New Brunswick attractions:

Fredericton City Hall is a great place to start your exploring of the down town area. It is where you can get a free parking pass for the downtown. If you are from out of province you can get a three-day pass so you don’t have to pay any parking fees. There is free RV parking too! Ask for your pass from the friendly City of Fredricton staff at the Tourist Information desk in City Hall. This facility also houses a display of colorful tapestries explaining the history of Fredericton and tours are done (in French or English) frequently.

The Historic Garrison District is where you will find history combined with culture. The buildings are historic and have been restored to show what their original purpose was. During the summer months this is where you can catch the changing of the guard, free concerts, and other festivals or events that might be going on. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket and sit and enjoy…there’s usually something going on.

Edventures is a learning vacation in crafts and culture. It takes place in the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design which is part of the Garrison District. It is here that you can learn anything from pottery to fashion design to jewelry making.

Trails, trails, and more trails are what you will find in Fredericton. Many of which have a lovely view of the Saint John River. Even the old train bridge spanning the river has been converted over to a trail for hikers and bikers and is part of the Trans Canada Trail network. You can actually rent bikes at the lighthouse for use on the trail system. A great family excursion on a nice day. There are lots of parks for a picnic lunch too.

The Provincial Legislative Assembly for the government of New Brunswick. You can tour this beautiful building as long as legislature is not in session. Check out the spiral staircase, the chandeliers, and the copper engravings of the birds of America. It is definitely not something I have ever seen before.

Science East is a hands-on science building where you will have so much fun trying everything you forget what time it is. There is something for everyone young or old. Don’t forget to go downstais to view for yourself where notorious murderer Allen Legere was kept for a while when this was the Provincial Jail. It is pretty amazing to see his living conditions and the things they had to do to keep ahead of his tricks.

The Beaverbrook Art Gallery is located directly across the street from the Legislative Assembly where Salvador Dali’s Santiago el Grande is displayed along with various other provincial, national, and international artists. They are open year around.

    Attractions near Fredericton New Brunswick:

Mactaquac Provincial Park is New Brunswick’s largest recreation park and is well worth visiting anytime of the year. From swimming, hiking, boating, camping, and golf in the summer. In winter enjoy lighted skating on the pond, snowshoeing, miles of cross-country ski trails, tobogganing and sleigh rides. They have also added Treego to the list of things you can doe there. It is an obstacle course in the trees.

York Centennial Park is just past the Mactaquac Park entrance on route 105. This is where the starting point of "Tree Go" is situated and a marina.

Kings Landing Historical Settlement is history well told. This is a Loyalist Village based on the 1800’s. All the homes on site are authentic to that time period. Visit the various families throughout the village, take in a barn dance, or have a meal 1800’s style at the Kings Head Inn. This is a great excursion for the entire family.

Mactaquac Generating Station is the Maritimes largest hydroelectric dam. Take a free tour of this facility and find out how it operates.
