Experience a Beautiful Sunset at Murray Beach Provincial Park

Murray Beach Provincial Park located on the Acadian Coastal Drive is just a few minutes from Confederation Bridge (the bridge to Prince Edward Island) on Route 955. It is one of nine parks owned and operated by the Province of New Brunswick.

Directions:

Once you are on Route 955 headed south, there will be 2 very narrow one-lane bridges, a take-out, and the Little Shemogue B&B on the way to Murray Beach Provincial Park. There will also be some great views of various marshlands and the Northumberland Strait. The Northumberland Strait is the body of water that separates the province of New Brunswick from Prince Edward Island.

If you are driving from PEI to Murray Beach Provincial Park, you will be able to see Confederation Bridge (pictured below)over the Northumberland Strait at a distance. This road (Route 955) is quite bumpy, so take your time and arrive safe in one piece. Along this section of Route 955 you will find a German Café and B&B. I wanted to stop and try it out but we were pressed for time. There is a convenience store 1.6km before Murray Beach Provincial Park along this route also.

Facilities:

At Murray Beach Provincial Park there are 111 campsites and about half of them have electricity. There is a dumping station onsite near the registration office where the staff are very friendly and helpful. Water is available to all campers at numerous areas throughout the park but is not available at each particular campsite. The campsites are spacious but very open with very few trees. Fire pits are available at all campsites. The non-serviced sites were more private with some trees. The washrooms/showers are clean but the shower will cost you $.25 for four minutes of hot water!

Murray Beach They also offer six tent cabins at a very reasonable price for those people who want the tenting experience without actually sleeping on the ground or getting wet if it rains. The tent cabins are just a shell of a cabin that occupy one of the tent sites that contain no washroom facilities (You use the facilities just like the other campers in the park.) but they do have power and there are wooden bed frames inside to put your air mattress and sleeping bag on. It is a great idea if you have friends or family who would like to tent with you but they don’t have a camper. They can rent a tent cabin and you can get a site in the same park.

We arrived mid-afternoon and set–up just in time to walk on the beach for a while. We love to walk along the beach and collect beach glass. Daddy needed a nap so the boys and I explored the beach for a couple of hours. The sand is nice for swimming but it is a bit rocky and there is some annoying seaweed. There is however a decent playground for smaller children.

We found the area to be windy and cool, which I assume was caused by the Northumberland Strait. This is great on a very warm day. Also, the tides are not a huge factor on this beach but there is a slight difference between high and low tide. We didn’t see any walking/biking trails around so I guess most people walk the beach.

New Brunswick Travel Tips:

Since I worked with tourism for a few years, I know that some people are looking for ways to cut cost on their vacation. We had people asking where they could drop off their trailer on the New Brunswick side, so they could do a day trip to PEI by vehicle only. By doing this they would eliminate having to pay the Confederation Bridge Toll for the extra axle(s) on the camper. It also saves on fuel cost and provides peace of mind knowing you don't have to pull a large trailer on the very narrow roads of PEI. Murray Beach Provincial Park is a great place to do this since it is only 10 minutes from Confederation Bridge.
