So You Want to play some New Brunswick golf courses?

When it comes to New Brunswick Golf you have many choices! With over fourty golf courses in this beautiful province there is sure to be one that will challenge even the most avid golfer.

What better way is there to spend a beautiful summer day!!

If you plan on playing a lot of golf, you should consider purchasing the Golf New Brunswick discount book. It is packed full of “2 for 1” discounts, and “Stay and Play” discounts. At $75, it is well worth it for anyone doing a golf vacation this summer. Go to Golf NB and choose “ trying to decide what to get the golfer? Get them a discount book!” The golfer on your gift list will love it!!

Another handy tool to have is the free brochure. It lists all the major golf courses, their location, directions, number of holes, par, fees, ratings, slope, and website information. It is free…just click to order off the website. When I worked at the information center I loved this handy tool. It is chalk-full of information laid out clear and concise. The front cover unfolds to three pages of New Brunswick Golf Course information ideal for any New Brunswick golfer.

I am not an avid golfer, but I have been known to beat my husband at a game or two…or at least distract him so he can’t seem to hit the broad side of a barn. Whatever works, right?

I suppose I should be nice, I’m hoping he’ll drop in to tell you about a few courses he’s played. Moving on…

Did you know the top 4 golf courses in the Maritimes are all in New Brunswick?

1. Kingswood Signature Golf Course- Located in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Boasts a 30ft waterfall and beautiful scenery. New course - opened in 2003.

2. The Fairmont Algonquin Golf Course- Located in St. Andrews, New Brunswick is unique in that the front 9 is heavily treed with a very nature like setting and the back 9 contrasts it with a jagged shoreline and view of part of the Bay of Fundy.

3. Royal Oaks Golf Links- Located in the heart of Moncton, New Brunswick it is the first course in Canada designed by Reese Jones, a US Open Architect. With a number of large lakes, excellent turf conditions, and numerous awards to boot, this is one you shouldn’t miss.

4. Fox Creek Golf Club- Located minutes from Royal Oakes in the city of Dieppe, it is surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of trees and beautiful lakes making the scenery a masterpiece all on its own.

If you are not into the big fancy golf courses and just like to get outside and shoot the balls around for some fun and a little exercise to boot, there are many golf courses for you.

With 42 New Brunswick golf courses scattered throughout the province, there is something for every one no matter what level. We have amazing scenery in this province so why not try your hand at a round of golf and enjoy our nature. Most places will rent you golf clubs and some will even give lessons.

My husband Patrick golfs once in a while. Here’s what he has to say about some of the New Brunswick Golf Courses:

Hi there! Despite the abuse I took earlier, I told my wife I’d help her out, and I’m a man who keeps his word. Here are a few of the better courses I’ve played:

Nackawic Golf and Country Club:

This is a nine-hole course. The scenery is nice, located right along an inlet in the Saint John River. The fairways are lined naturally with mostly pine trees – making balls hit into the woods easy to find…not that I’d know that from experience.

The fairways are fairly wide. The grass is kept quite short, and with hard-packed ground, any worm-burners roll on forever. The greens can be a little rough if we have a dry summer.

Be prepared to shoot long on the first hole, I think it’s around 350yds, if I remember correctly. It’s a fairly challenging course, testing a variety of golfing skills. Rolling hills, cool streams flowing across the fairways, hitting downhill 20yds, and then back up 20 yards a couple of holes later.

Scored my first (and only) birdie ever on the 6th hole. Cranked a real nice one over the trees and then two-putted for the sinker.

I had a membership here a few years ago, and then we had kids…

All-in-all good value for the money; friendly people and relaxing atmosphere. Kitchen services available, too.

Mactaquac Golf Course

Mactaquac is a step up from Nackawic. With 18-holes, and the backing of a Provincial Park , this New Brunswick golf course is a must for any golfing trip.

Generally speaking, the people are friendly (but then, we’re all friendly in New Brunswick), the course is beautiful, and the challenges are many.

You’ll find yourself deciding whether to go for gold and drive over a small lake (or large pond), or play it safe and stay on the near side. Of course, there’s always the dogleg left or right fairways where you either take two shots, or hammer it over the trees.

There are lots of long holes, a couple of short ones, and a few average drives. I’d recommend a cart, or you’ll be dragging some serious behind by the end of 18. Even with a cart, my arms were sore after about the 15th hole.

The fairways are beautiful, wide, and contain luscious green grass all around. My only complaint is that the “rough” is a little too rough. Many balls that should have been found were lost because the grass was a little high. But then, all I needed to do was keep the ball in the fairway, right?

You definitely want to call ahead to book tee-times. Try to arrange a group of four if possible, or they’ll put you with somebody else. Toll free 1-877-TEE-IN-NB. The cost is a little steeper than Nackawic, but the course is much nicer. Makes a great Father’s Day gift…

That’s it for now. I’ll probably check in later with my review of Riverbend and Woodstock golf courses.

For the time being, get out and try your hand at some of the many New Brunswick golf courses!

My father-in-law recently tried the beautiful golf course on Campobello Island at Herring Cove Provincial Park. They were extremely impressed with the course and stated that they would rather drive there (over 2-hr drive plus 2 ferry rides) than go to Prince Edward Island to golf! They LOVED it there!!!

Other Great Golf Courses:

Let Mario show you around his Florida Golf website! He can help get you on your way to golfing in one of our great country's favorite states, Florida. His site also has information on playing golf in those unique cities that are sometimes out of the way but contain lots of charm and history.
