New Brunswick Tourism in A Nut Clam Shell.
The New Brunswick tourism industry contributes millions of dollars to our economy. Because of this, each of the Provincial Visitor Information Centers (PVICs) staff are extremely well trained on what there is to see and do in the province.
I know how well they are trained since I used to be one them. I loved my job as a counselor for the Province of New Brunswick but due to restructuring, our VIC closed in 2008. I have now turned to the internet to tell people about New Brunswick tourism and this place I call home!
I worked as a counselor for five years and received updated training every year regarding new businesses and accommodations. It was part of my job to know what was happening in the entire province of New Brunswick on any given day of the summer.
There are currently six PVIC’s in operation by the New Brunswick Tourism Department. These PVIC’s are open from mid May to mid October. All of them are at major border points to the province, have clean washrooms, and have bilingual (French and English) staff to assist you.
All six of these centers are staffed with professional people and have strict guidelines as to what can be displayed and promoted in an effort to make the visitors experience in New Brunswick the best it can be. For instance, this means that a campground that just lost their operating license cannot be given as an option for a place to stay because it no longer meets New Brunswick tourism guidelines.
We don’t want you to be disappointed!
We want you to have the best experiences while visiting our beautiful province.
If you come to New Brunswick without knowing what there is to see or do, these counselors can assist you in making travel plans that suit your needs and interests.
At no cost to you, New Brunswick tourism counselors can call and arrange accommodations for the night (or the week, depending on your plans…), book your whale watching tour, or book your tee off time; all while getting you exactly what you want at the best possible price.
I’ve been known to change the mind of many a visitor planning on driving through New Brunswick…did I mention there’s so much to see and do here?
New Brunswick tourism counselors have all kinds of information at their fingertips. From maps of various cities and towns, Internet, information manuals, ferry schedules, brochures, travel guide, and years of knowledge. Although these counselors cannot promote any one accommodation or attraction over another, they can give you enough information so that you can make the right decision to suite your situation.
Ask for your free New Brunswick Map at one of the PVIC’s along with any coupons and special deals that can only be obtained through these Centers.
While visiting one of the PVIC’s you can check your email or send and email with their free internet service. You don’t need to have an email account to send an email; the province has set it up so that you can send it from their account… you just need to know the email address of the people you want to send it to.
Please don’t confuse the Provincial Visitor Information Centers (PVIC’s) with the Municipal Visitor Information Centers (MVIC’s). There is a huge difference!!! The MVIC’s can be very helpful when you have questions about the particular area they are in, but usually have limited knowledge of the rest of the province.
On the official travel Map of New Brunswick, the PVIC’s are the large “?” and are blue in color (and they are all at border points). The MVIC’s are a little smaller and are black in color on the map. They are usually found within the various municipalities. Some of these MVIC’s are very small and do not have washroom facilities for the traveling public.
The information found at a MVIC is not under as strict a guidelines as it is in the Provincial ones. Bilingual service may not be mandatory either, since the local municipality operates them and are usually run by students as a summer employment opportunity. There are over 60 of them in various areas around the province. Some of them take their job very seriously and go the extra mile to make your visit the best it can be.
Here is a listing of the PVIC’s and their locations:
