The Premier of New Brunswick is the Head of the State
New Brunswick Canada became part of Confederation in 1867 making the Premier of New Brunswick the head of the state. There have been 31 Premiers of New Brunswick since New Brunswick became part of Confederation.
The Premier resides in Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick.
The roll of the Premier of New Brunswick is to be the leader of the head of the government for the province. After elected, the Premier chooses his own cabinet (a group of ministers) and assigns them departmental responsibilities. The Cabinet is the decision making group for the elected political party. They develop and implement policies as agreed upon by the group and establish priorties and carry out new legislation for the Province.
There were six leaders before New Brunswick became part of Confederation.
They were:
Charles Fisher from 1854-1856, John Hamilton Gray from 1856-1857, Charles Fisher again from 1857-1861, Samuel Leonard Tilley from 1861-1865, Albert J Smith from 1865-1866, and Peter Mitchell from 1866-1867.
Since Confederation in 1867 there have been thirty-one Premiers of New Brunswick.
