This small town is situated along the Richibucto River in the central part of the east coast of New Brunswick. It’s primary industry is the lobster fishery and deep sea fishing as is apparent by the numerous commercial fishing wharves in the down- town area.
What’s in a name?
The name Richibucto comes from a Mi’kmaq term meaning ”River of Fire”. Fitting since the town is comprised of Native Mi’kmaq, French Acadian, and English people. The town’s signs welcome you in all three languages.

The local 4-story lighthouse, also known as Hudson Oddities, is where a local artist displays and sells her beach glasss creations. The other local lighthouse is the Richibucto Head Lighthouse and it is an actual working lighthouse along the coast.
Looking for a beach for the kids? The Louis J Robichaud Park offers unsupervised swimming, playground and picnic area (with a little canteen and washrooms near by). Bring your camera along to photograph some of the more than 200 species of birds that frequent the area. I hear Mooney Creek is the best place for birding.
