Shediac New Brunswick - Where You Can Lay on The Beach and Eat Lobster too.

Shediac New Brunswick quick facts:
  • Industry: Manufacturing, industrial, high tech, government, and tourism
  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • Population of approximately 5,000
  • Accommodations: Camping, hotel/motel, B&B
Shediac New Brunswick is a waterfront community located only 15 minutes from down town Moncton on the Shediac Bay, an inlet off the Northumberland Strait. It’s nearby beach, Parlee Beach is one of new Brunswick’s most popular tourist attractions since it is well known for its beautiful sandy beaches and warm, warm water. The tide is not as significant a factor in this area of the province but you do notice a difference when it is out. There is definitely more of the sandy beach to explore.

Shediac has an outstanding number of bilingual people within it’s relatively small population. A whopping 70% can speak both French and English.

Shediac New Brunswick is the lobster capital of the world and every year they celebrate their lobster fishery with a festival. The Shediac lobster festival happens every year in July. Here are the details for the annual Shediac Lobster Festival. This is one of the top festivals in New Brunswick. If you plan to attend then you definitely will need to book accommodations early.

As you could have probably guessed, there are no shortages of seafood restaurants in the area. From the local take-outs to fine dining you are sure to find seafood in abundance in this town. After enjoying some seafood be sure to check out the giant lobster sculpture down town in Rotary Park and get your picture taken with it. This giant lobster sculpture, the largest in the world, stands as a symbol for this town. It measures a whopping 11 meters long, 5 meters high, and 5 meters wide. Take your picture with it and take time to browse all the unique shops near the large crustation for a souvenir to take home.

If you are looking for some fine dining be sure to make a stop at the Tait House. It is a newly renovated Victorian house that is now home to a French Restaurant with some special local flavors. The flower gardens out front are gorgeous and as you are driving through town you can’t miss it. Shediac Tait House

Parlee Beach Provincial Park is located east of Shediac New Brunswick. It is by far the most popular provincial park with over a million visitors each summer. This is where you can enjoy amazing sandy beaches and swimming in some of the warmest water north of Virginia USA. This provincial park also offers activities for the kids and has a large campground also.

Point-du-Chene Warf, only minutes from the down town Shediac, is worth visiting since it offers live music, boat rides, sailboat races, nightlife, bars/restaurants. There is something happening at Point-du-Chene seven days a week!

Croisières Shediac Bay Cruises offer an unforgetable lobster fishing experience called Lobster Tales. It is great fun and good food for the whole family.

Aboiteau Park, not far from Shediac also has beaches, some of which are more private and secluded (unlike Parlee). I am told that the Aboiteau Restaurant serves up a trucker’s meal every time.

Shediac is close to many popular tourist attractions in the Moncton and surrounding area. They include such attractions as: Magic Mountain Water Park, Magnetic Hill Zoo, Crystal Palace Amusement Park, la Dune de Bouctouche, Le Payes de la Sagouine, The Hopewell Rocks, Fundy National Park, and The Bay of Fundy.
