Theatre New Brunswick and The Fredericton Play House: Both Dedicated to High Quality Theatre Productions

So where did Theatre New Brunswick start?

In 1964 The Play House (Beaverbrook Auditorium Inc.) was constructed in Fredericton with money donated by Lord and Lady Beaverbrook. It was to be used as a way to get New Brunswicker’s to become more open to artistical talent. It operated primarily as a rental facility for the first few years until it developed the first english traveling theatre company called Theatre New Brunswick.

This is the provinces only English professional travelling theatre company and has been around since 1969. The Fredericton Play House has been synonymous with TNB for many years since their production base remained there until 2003 when they outgrew the facility and formed their own company.

Now the two operate independantly from each other and have aquired their own separate identity. The Play House remains to be the facility that hosts TNB productions along with many other facilities across the province.

Are you looking to get some training in dance, acting or singing? The Young Company, a branch of TNB, was established in 1974 and the Theastre School in 1999 giving young adults a wide range of opportunity for learning all aspects of theatre.

TNB continues to keep it’s great reputation by providing many years of successful operation of high quality theatre for it’s dedicated audiences.

The Play House, in down town Fredericton across from the Crown Plaza Hotel, is a very comfortable facility that hosts many live music, dance, and comedy performances.

My husband and I have been to the Fredericton Play House to hear some famous stand-up comedians. Lorne Elliot and Brent Butt are two commedians that we have seen put on incredible shows in recent years at the Play House.

I am always game for an evening of side-splitting laughter and it is well worth every cent!
